No, there was no spontaneous human combustion to explain the gap from my last entry. Just a very chaotic period of ten days in Dallas leading up to my parents’ golden anniversary party on August 31, 2013…plus a few more after for recovery. But it was definitely so hot in Texas that I could have self-ignited even while just standing still in the shade.
Anyway, as you can tell in the opening photo, the winner is indeed dress #3 from my last entry. Thank you all, dear readers, for your comments and suggestions. I ended up accessorizing it simply with a pearl belt borrowed from one of my other Chanel dresses and my “lucky” earrings.
Though for their golden anniversary I should have worn these:
But emerald is my mom’s birthstone and as I needed all the luck I could use to emcee the event that night; I wanted to wear that pair of earrings that has seen me through much tougher occasions. Girls, when the going gets tough, the tough wears fine jewelry!
There were a few fashion emergencies that night–what with roasted tomato flicked on the back of my dress and spaghetti straps popping and false eyelashes gone MIA, which I suspect happened when I was zipping my munchkin nieces around in the golf cart earlier in the afternoon with the hot wind blowing in our faces …
But the venue at the Four Seasons was lovely,
and I couldn’t have been seated next to a more charming companion, who fed me bread and even chicken (gasp!):
In the next blog entry I will share something very personal about my parents’ fifty years together, but this celebration weekend was so much bigger than their marriage. It was a family reunion for both sides of the family–here are the girl cousins rehearsing a surprise dance number the night before the party (and yes, our faces are all blurred in case someone still has delusions of running for public office :D)…
My dad and his three brothers…
All the kiddos who probably had way too much sugar at the candy bar…
So… was a week of very little sleep and enormous stress all worth it? Well, if it meant all my nieces and nephew meeting each other for the first time…
and my parents cutting the cake exactly fifty years to the date of their wedding day…
then 1000% absolutely worth it. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. But I’m going to need a power nap.
You look great in the outfit that you wore, even though it wasn’t my pick! 😉 It sounds like it was a fantastic family event and congrats to your parents on the golden anniversary! 🙂
