Barcelona, Day 1

We’re not in LA anymore!

Or are we? With McDo and Starbucks everywhere I look, it’s sometimes hard to leave the US too far behind while on the road. But as I mentioned in the last entry, today I’m taking you with me to Barcelona, one of my favorite places in the world. It’s a repeat visit for me, so this time I feel less rushed and just want to soak in the vibrant energy and gorgeous architecture of the city.

When in Barcelona, you’ve got to look up…

then work your way down each and every exquisite building…

And if you should run across any secret stairways, take them until you get shooed out:

Barcelona is definitely a city built for walking and people watching…

and of course window shopping…

This time around my head is actually preoccupied with work, so no reveals of Chanel or Hermès bags. Booo. But don’t you love this window display at Hermès?

All this walking can only lead to one reward: food, Catalan style! I always relish starting each meal with some toasted bread rubbed with garlic, diced tomato, and olive oil:

This pic below is of a fancier version from the fabulous Via 45 restaurant; love the sardines on the melt-in-your-mouth bread:

Probably the best pan con tomate I’ve ever had in my life! And they followed it with this fish plate; fresh catch simply grilled yet so rich in flavor–though I prefer to not see the head and tail of anything on my plate:

I take their business card since the meal was so good, I wouldn’t mind trying other things on their menu on another day. So that’s Barcelona, Day 1. Put your wine glass down; to the parc we go!

That Hermes window is too fun! I am reminded of the wonderful architecture of Barcelona now and hope we can make it there again soon!
I need to find a job that has me traveling to Europe!
